Course Description

This course links communication theory with the practice of financial communication and investor relations. You will investigate the strategic management of information flows between an organisation and its stakeholders, investors and markets.

You will explore how to promote and enhance financial reputation when reporting financial news, working with analysts, handling business media, and managing engagement with shareholders and investors. You will also combine your knowledge of how investment markets work from a communication perspective and how to communicate with key stakeholders such as the media, investment community, shareholders and consumers of financial products.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

  • Develop a broad range of knowledge and skills for application across media and communication industries.
  • Employ appropriate technical and theoretical knowledge to solve problems associated with the media and communication industries.


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Examine the principles, concepts and ethics of financial communication.
  • Engage with investors and other stakeholders to promote the financial interests of organisations.
  • Manage the financial reputation of organisations by influencing the financial news-flow.
  • Critically discuss the corporate regulatory environment and analyst expectations, in terms of communication management.
  • Critically reflect on the implications and challenges of managing organisational information flows in financial communication.
