Course Description

In this course you will collaborate with peers, Industry and staff to develop and create one or more small original production project/s. You will explore professional practice, forms and processes involved in making projects for a contemporary media audience.

This is the designated Work Integrated Learning (WIL) course for MC188 Master of Media and GD180 Graduate Diploma in Media. This course includes a work integrated learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/or community is integral to your experience.

You may have the option to undertake an industry placement* as an aspect of this course. Details of this will be provided by the Course Coordinator.

Placement Option Requirements
*An agreement including schedule and relevant insurance documentation is required to be completed before commencing each placement (local and international). International placements must be registered and processed through RMIT Global Mobility. In the case where a placement ends early, please refer to Changes or cancellation of WIL activities in the WIL Guideline.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the practices and techniques of professional media production.
  • Work collaboratively to plan and produce media projects.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Examine and critically discuss media theory related to media production projects.
  2. Analyse and assess technical and production issues related to media production projects.
  3. Collaborate on media production projects from production to distribution.
  4. Critically reflect on the process, strengths and weaknesses of the project work.
  5. Critically reflect on your contribution to the project/s. 


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be engaged in a range of activities both face to face and online such as lectures, tutorials, group and class discussion, studios, group activities and individual research. This course will simulate real-world production practices in a studio context.
