Course Description

The course has been designed to allow you to research career paths in your field, improve your professional networks, and undertake the personal and professional development required for you to achieve your desired career outcome.

You will work with a career coach to help you identify, articulate and then develop strategies to reach your goal.

This course offers a range of frameworks for critically analysing and responding to the implications of change in the dynamic world of media and communication industries, including existing and emerging professional practices.

You have the option to undertake an industry placement* as an aspect of this course. Details of this will be provided by the Course Coordinator.

Placement Option Requirements
*An agreement including schedule and relevant insurance documentation is required to be completed before commencing each placement (local and international). International placements must be registered and processed through RMIT Global Mobility. In the case where a placement ends early, please refer to Changes or cancellation of WIL activities in the WIL Guideline.

 

 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

You will be assessed on your development of the following program learning outcomes:

  • Professionally communicate propositions, processes and outcomes to address specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Master a body of knowledge and specific technical skills to progress your professional career within the contemporary media and communication arena.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Analyse your own career ambitions.
  • Strategise your approach to meeting your goals, including identification of measurable objectives.
  • Implement innovative approaches to developing networks and meeting your goals.
  • Reflect on your career goals and opportunities.


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is offered in online and face to face modes. Seminars will be facilitated by lecturers with industry guests. You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as discussion, research, and individual and collaborative projects.

There may be opportunities for cross-institutional study and/or online collaboration in local or international communities of practice.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment may include reports, projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.
