Course Description

In this course you will collaborate with peers and take on leadership roles to produce an original media project. You will consolidate your professional practice and further your career goals by making an original project for a contemporary media audience. You will build high-level conceptual and practical skills and develop your directional vision for narrative, visual, auditory, linear and/or interactive media. 


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes:

  • Apply theoretically informed knowledge and forward-looking skills to the production of sophisticated media projects.
  • Determine and apply the specialist knowledge and technical skills required to creatively solve problems, demonstrating expert judgment and ethical responsibility relating to your professional practice and discipline.
  • Provide leadership within your discipline as well as collaborate with others.


Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Research and contextualise your project work in terms of contemporary media directions and issues.
  2. Devise leadership strategies and apply skills for collaborative work.
  3. Manage various phases of media production projects.
  4. Troubleshoot production problems and pose solutions.
  5. Critically reflect upon theoretical perspectives in practice. 


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is offered in online and face to face modes. Seminars will be facilitated by lecturers with industry guests. You will be actively engaged in learning that involves a range of activities such as discussion, research, and individual and collaborative projects.

There may be opportunities for cross-institutional study and/or online collaboration in local or international communities of practice.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment may include reports, projects and presentations, individually and in groups. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
