Course Description

This course focuses on deepening your knowledge of the Writing Mode. You will develop and refine your knowledge in the skills and strategies involved in the writing process, spelling (phonics, word study) and grammar. You will choose one area of the Writing Mode to research and develop your knowledge and understanding of the theory and practice.  You will develop and deliver professional learning in Literacy to colleagues. You will apply your expert literacy pedagogical and content knowledge by planning and teaching a sequence of lessons in the classroom.

Your learning in this course will involve a range of activities including online lectures, workshops, practical activities, individual tasks, collaborative group work, discussion and individual reflection. It will also involve a site based experience.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Assessment Tasks:

AT1: Instruction Analysis and Learning Design; 50%, CLO1, CLO 2 

Design and implement a sequence of lessons for a selected grade level to develop students’ deep understanding of literacy learning in the chosen area.

AT2: Literacy leadership - Professional Learning for Colleagues; 50%, CLO3, CLO4, CLO5, CLO6

Develop and deliver a short professional learning session for colleagues.

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
