Course Description

This course equips you with knowledge and skill in the teaching of Health, Physical Education and Sport (HPE&S), and apply a range of teaching protocols and strategies within the secondary school environment. Emphasis will be placed on building a comprehensive understanding of, and ability to apply teaching competencies to the teaching of physical education and sport. These skills and related concepts and strategies will be applied in a range of practical based net, court games and sports.

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a school environment and where feedback from supervising staff and mentors are integral to the learning experience.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

• Demonstrate broad and coherent theoretical and technical knowledge in practical applications in Health, Physical Education and Sport
• Consolidate and synthesise expert content and pedagogical content knowledge and apply evidence-based high-impact teaching strategies in professional practice
• Analyse and evaluate student-centred learning approaches to plan effectively for differentiation in health, physical education and sport
• Create a safe and engaging learning environment using inclusive strategies, sustainable practices and digital technologies for diverse audiences

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

Assessment in this course is directly connected to your successful participation in professional experience. The end-of-placement report from your supervising teacher(s) on your professional development and participation in professional experience is an important component of your assessment. It will provide evidence of your ability to demonstrate the relevant professional practices and course learning outcomes specifically associated with the assessment tasks in the course.

In order to pass this course, you are required to receive a satisfactory assessment on your professional experience, in accordance with expectations outlined in the PX Handbook for the course. Due to safety and professional accreditation requirements students must satisfactorily complete all practical sessions. If you fail to meet this requirement, for reasons other than those approved by special considerations, you will not pass the course. If granted Special Consideration, you may become eligible to complete alternative professional experience and/or practical activity to pass the course.
