Course Description

This course focuses on teaching the theoretical and practical aspects of your alternate teaching method in secondary schools. You will be introduced to curriculum frameworks and appropriate methodologies in your teaching. This course will focus on the planning of classroom and curriculum materials.

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a school environment and where feedback from supervising staff and mentors are integral to the learning experience.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes: 

  • Consolidate and synthesise expert content and pedagogical content knowledge and apply evidence-based high-impact teaching and coaching strategies in professional practice.
  • Analyse and evaluate student-centred learning approaches to plan effectively for differentiation in Health, Physical Education and Sport
  • Apply initiative, curiosity, creativity, judgement, critical thinking and problem solving skills and demonstrate the capacity to work responsibly, both individually and collaboratively, to address challenges in local and global contexts

Assessment in this course is directly connected to your successful participation in professional experience. The end-of-placement report from your supervising teacher(s) on your professional development and participation in professional experience is an important component of your assessment. It will provide evidence of your ability to demonstrate the relevant professional practices and course learning outcomes specifically associated with the assessment tasks in the course.

In order to pass this course, you are required to receive a satisfactory assessment on your professional experience, in accordance with expectations outlined in the PX Handbook for the course. If you fail to meet this requirement, for reasons other than those approved by special considerations, you will not pass the course. If granted Special Consideration, you may become eligible to complete an alternative professional experience to pass the course.
