Course Description

This course requires you to complete a minimum of 36 hours internship in a relevant sporting organisation or exercise setting (e.g., school, community, fitness, health, professional, or corporate). Working closely with your tutor you will select an area of interest in order to broaden your professional learning and through the design, implementation and evaluation of a coaching ‘service learning’ project, you will be able to describe how you have developed your knowledge and skills in sports coaching. 

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry and/ or community is integral to your experience.

Overview of Learning Activities

You will participate in workshops and various online activities that will help you to identify an area of professional interest which you wish to develop, introduce you to the service learning concept and provide guidance for your service learning project design.  Your tutor will also give you clear guidance on how to evaluate and present your project to your supervising coach and peers.

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as workshops, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities. Teaching and learning may be face to face, online, or a combination of both.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of your learning. You will be able to develop your work in relation to your own specific areas of interest in your professional practice.

n order to pass this course, you are required to receive a satisfactory assessment on your professional experience, in accordance with expectations outlined in the WIL Handbook for the course. Due to safety and professional accreditation requirements students must satisfactorily complete all practical sessions. If you fail to meet this requirement, for reasons other than those approved by special considerations, you will not pass the course. If granted Special Consideration, you may become eligible to complete alternative professional experience and/or practical activity to pass the course.
