This course should be taken in your final semester of study in the Bachelor of Youth Work and Youth Studies, and you should have successfully completed all core requirements up to this stage of your studies.


Course Description

In this course, you will draw upon theoretical and professional learning to demonstrate your readiness to graduate and seek employment in Youth Work or a related field. Through the curation of artefacts and evidence of your experiences and proficiencies, you will produce assessment pieces designed to facilitate your transition from learner to youth work practitioner.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In course you will develop the following program learning outcomes: 

  • Communicate effectively and professionally using a range of appropriate modalities and genres suitable to broad stakeholders across the Youth Sector, including young people, statutory agencies, families, government and other professionals 
  • Engage responsibly and ethically in professional relationships, whilst attending to the wide range of complex issues regarding young people and other key stakeholders, in the execution of your duty of care. 


Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Articulate and evidence your Youth Work knowledge and skills for future employment across diverse settings. 
  2. Illustrate the execution and impact of high level of inter-personal, ethical and professional attributes in working with young people, families and other stakeholders. 
  3. Assert your efficacy, professionalism and effectiveness in regards to the work you have undertaken and prospective future employment.
  4. Critically evaluate your personal and professional learning journey across the breadth of your program. 
  5. Apply to work as part of a Youth Work/Youth Sector team, outlining your areas of expertise and potential contributions to the field. 


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is facilitated weekly tutorials. Prior to each week’s tutorial you will have watched/attended the lecture and read the week’s prescribed readings. Provocations will be provided for you to consider yourself in relation to professional association requirements to practice as a Youth Worker or in the Youth Work sector. You will receive mentoring to develop professional standard responses to key selection criteria for future employment.

RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. This includes resources such as weekly readings, assessment supports, requirements for workshop and seminar participation and notes from classes.

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

You will select a topic that interests you and explore this in three embedded assessments that build in from each other.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: Response to ethical dilemma, 25%, CLOs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,  

Assessment Task 2: Cover letter and responses to Key Selection Criteria, 25%, CLOs 1, 2, 4, 5

Assessment Task 3:  Who am I as a youth worker? Reflexive task, 25%, CLOs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5

Feedback will be given on all assessment tasks.
