Course Description

This course provides you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program. The purpose of the course is to integrate the theory and practice of digital business transformation and equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in your careers. You will draw upon the concepts, applications, tools and perspectives associated with digital business transformation projects to identify and solve business problems.

The course involves the development of knowledge and skills related to undertaking business research and applying accumulated knowledge and skills to produce an analytical report that can be used to inform decision making by business professionals. Since real-world business firms are placing increased importance on team approaches to manage and resolve business challenges this course has been so designed that most its requirements are carried out collectively by team members.

This course includes a Work Integrated Learning (WIL) experience in which your knowledge and skills will be applied and assessed in a real or simulated workplace context and where feedback from industry is integral to your experience.

This course provides you with a capstone experience, which will give you the opportunity to integrate, critically reflect on and consolidate what you have learnt in your program. It should therefore only be attempted towards the very end of your program.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

.

On successful completion of this course, you should be able to:

  1. Identify and analyse aspects of the organisational context to evaluate the need for digital business transformation.
  2. Negotiate, design, implement and use digital group work-practices that support a collaborative approach to solving organisational challenges.
  3. Identify and evaluate a range of digital tools to support an organisation as it undertakes digital transformation.
  4. Monitor and reflect on your own performance and that of your team to drive team performance.
  5. Identify and evaluate business risk and incorporate risk assessment into business decision making processes.
  6. Communicate business data through research analysis and make evidence-based recommendations to management.

Overview of Learning Activities

In this course, you will be encouraged to be an active learner. Your learning will be supported through various in-class and online activities comprising individual and group work. These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects. When working with team mates in this course it is expected that you will extensively utilise digital communication and collaboration tools to support your work practices.

This course provides a WIL (Work Integrated Learning) experience and is a capstone course and draws on your previous studies in the Digital Business Program. The purpose of this course is to integrate that which you have previously learned and to provide an opportunity for you to use that knowledge in an applied manner in a real business challenge. This is a practice based course and therefore there is a strong emphasis on you applying what you have learned. As a WIL experience course we work with industry partner(s) to provide real data, a real problem and a real opportunity to provide a management solution to the problem. You will have the opportunity to present your work to our partner organisation at the conclusion of the semester.

The course uses a blended approach to learning. Foundation content will be available via material posted in Canvas. There may be occasions for Face-to-face lectures to provide the opportunity for subject experts to come into the lecture theatre and discuss the specifics of applying their subject area expertise to the Digital business transformation challenge that faces you. Often these 'lectures' and the workshops are delivered at the same time as part of a three hour block. The workshops are Face-to-face mode where you work on providing your solution to the Digital business transformation challenge.

This course is a capstone course in the Bachelor of Business Digital Business program. What this means is that we draw together all the previous knowledge that you have accumulated over your program and we begin the process of applying that knowledge in appropriate and creative ways. It also means that it is your responsibility to make those connections between the theory we teach in this course and your previous learning. You are expected to apply concepts, theories, tools, frameworks and practices that you have learned in your program. We won’t tell you when to draw upon your previous knowledge and experience; it is up to you to make those connections for yourself. You are now expected to be truly independent learners, in charge of your own scholarly path. This is why this course is unsuitable for students who are not in the final year of their degree.
