Course Description

In this course you will investigate and analyse market trends, policy and regulatory issues associated with working as a property professional in the global market. You will further build your knowledge of development, global investment flows and other significant global property trends.

You will visit iconic property sites and evaluate best practice across diverse organisations. These experiences will develop your insight into local practices   and how these practices inform and are impacted on global trends in property.  You will synthesise and expand your knowledge of international best practice in property markets.

This course includes a study tour conducted during an intensive period The study tour offers a unique forum to develop your practical knowledge and skills which focus on global trends in property.

This global focus provides the opportunity for you to critically evaluate real time case studies in property development, investment and asset management.

The study tour component may take the form of onsite activities, presentations from local professionals and site visits. You will be provided with opportunities to create and expand global networks to further enhance career options. All participants in the study tour must enrol in this course. Please note that course enrolment fees do not include tour costs. Refer to the Course Coordinator and Part B course guide for the itinerary, travel and accommodation costs. Prior to departure of each tour there will be a series of preparatory information meetings.

Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

 

  1. Evaluate international case studies and determine the impact of global property market trends
  2. Analyse how property market practices are operationalized in the global context 
  3. Critically appraise best practice for maintaining and developing property assets in the local and global context
  4. Research trends in global property markets


Overview of Learning Activities

You will attend workshops prior to the study tour to develop your preliminary knowledge of property as a global asset. You will be guided in your learning through a combination of prescribed readings, site visits, and industry presentations as well as your own investigation of local and international markets, analysing and evaluating particular trends which shape property markets within international cities/region.

Activities include:

  • Visiting property sites of significance to particular property locations and participate in presentations delivered by property specialists and practitioners.
  • Analysing peer reviewed journals to develop your knowledge and critically reflect on your experiences.
  • Engaging with your peers in reflective discussion of pertinent issues about your experience

Critically reflecting on your experiences and learning following the global intensive

Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and illustrate how your thinking has developed through the tour.

Assessment

Task 1: Preliminary research investigation of proposed global property markets, 1500 words, 30% weighting (due two weeks before tour departure) (individual) CLO 1, 4

Task 2: Collaborative report/presentation analysing an international case study 1500 words, 30% weighting (due during tour) (group) CLO 2, 3 & 4

Task 3: Final report and critical reflection 2500 words, 40% weighting (due 2 weeks after tour) (individual) CLO 1, 2, 3, & 4
