Course Description

This course provides you with an overview of the product knowledge required for fashion apparel. You will learn about basic yarns, fibres and fabrics, including garment construction and assembly techniques as well as an appreciation of style elements and an introduction to product specifications. You will also examine the concept of product life cycle assessment to understand the social and environmental impact of fashion industry outputs.

Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

Program Learning Outcomes 

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO1: Critically review, analyse and evaluate theory and industry knowledge relevant for fashion enterprise in the global fashion business environment.

PLO2: Apply a range of creative and commercial skills to successfully practice in a range of roles in the field of fashion enterprise.

PLO3: Demonstrate creativity, critical thinking and innovation to identify and solve problems in diverse contexts within the field of fashion enterprise.

Course Learning Outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO 1: Identify the different fibres, fabrics and textiles used in the fashion industry and their application to the end product.

CLO 2: Determine the suitability and trend-appropriateness of fabrics, garment construction, styles, colours and silhouettes for seasonal collections within consumer segments.

CLO 3: Evaluate different fashion trends and styles in response to a product brief within different consumer segments.

CLO 4: Critically analyse how the fashion product life cycle assessment can minimise the footprint of fashion products on the environments and communities in which they are made and sold.

CLO 5: Develop  a production-ready  tech pack which communicate, interpret and clarify a product design in response to a fashion brief.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to enquire, investigate, analyse and solve fashion business problems.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course’s learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. 

Assessment Tasks: 

Assessment Task 1: Fibre, Fabric, Fashion Folio, (50%), CLOs: 1,2 & 3 

Assessment Task 2: Capsule Range & Tech Packs (50%) CLOs: 2,3,4 & 5
