You must have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite course GRAP2816 Fashion and Textiles Materials before you commence this course.
Alternatively, you may be able to demonstrate the required skills and knowledge before you start this course.
Students enrolled in Bachelor of Fashion (Enterprise) must have satisfactorily completed the prerequisite course MANU2489 Fashion Product Specifications.
Note: it is a condition of enrolment at RMIT that you accept responsibility for ensuring that you have completed the prerequisite/s and agree to concurrently enrol in co-requisite courses before enrolling in a course.

Course Description
This course introduces you to the concepts of sustainable practice and fashion innovation through reinvention. You will learn to apply sustainable and ethical design theory to the practices of re-design and re-manufacture within an industrial fashion context. You will also learn how to apply your emerging design skills to demonstrate sustainable design techniques through experimental design practice. You will achieve a deeper appreciation for collaborative and reflective design practice, active documentation and challenge common understandings of fashion design process and supply chains. This course offers an opportunity to experience different approaches to fashion production and consumption through a live project.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:
PLO 2: Develop conceptual, technical, creative and communication skills to deepen and consolidate knowledge of fashion design.
PLO:3 Apply fashion design knowledge and skills to identify and creatively respond to contemporary issues in local and global practice.
PLO:5 Demonstrate creative, critical fashion design and thinking that recognises the key concerns of contemporary fashion design industries
PLO:6 Communicate and produce fashion using a diverse range of presentation mediums and materials in industry specific and broader design contexts
PLO:7 Demonstrate, through individual and collaborative critical and reflective practice, an awareness of the cultural, social, ethical and environmental contexts of fashion design.

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO:1 Analyse a set of circumstances specific to a design problem
CLO:2 Communicate knowledge of and skills related to re-design and re-manufacture
CLO:3 Design through application of your specified design principles, within the context of fashion design for reuse.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand fashion practice.

You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
Assessment Task 1: Remanufacturing Fashion (Garment Outcome Presentation + Documentation) (40%) CLO 2 and CLO 3
Assessment Task 2: Oppositional Remake (Garment Outcome + Documentation) (45%) CLO 2 and CLO 3
Assessment Task 3: The Reuse Context (Online Quizzes) (15%) CLO 1
