Course Description

This course will introduce you to some of the materials, tools, techniques and processes employed by textile designers in practice. You will engage in short studio projects to creatively explore ways of working and thinking through design ideas. You will learn how to interpret and translate your design concepts into textile samples and surfaces using appropriate tools, materials and techniques.

Program Learning Outcomes

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO1: Demonstrate broad knowledge of textile design creation and production with depth and expertise in one or more areas of practice.

PLO2: Develop conceptual, creative, technical and digital skills to deepen and synthesise knowledge of textile design applications and technologies.

PLO3: Apply design skills and knowledge to examine, analyse and creatively respond to contemporary issues in both local and global textile production.

PLO6: Communicate and present design concepts using a diverse range of presentation mediums and materials in industry specific and broader design contexts. 


Course Learning outcomes 

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Apply a variety of industry relevant textile design techniques to generate and communicate textile design concepts.

CLO2: Create design ideas, employing principles such as colour, texture, motif, pattern, and basic repeat systems.

CLO3: Interpret and refine collected inspiration and design development using varied textile design methods.

CLO4: Respond to and work within the parameters of a design brief.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of face-to-face and online activities that require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities encourage you to: explore, investigate, analyse and understand the many and varied facets of textile design practice.

  You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.

Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:


Assessment Task 1: Folio of Practical Experimentation (50%) CLO 1, CLO 2 and CLO 4

Assessment Task 2: Resolution and Presentation (50%) CLO 1, CLO 2, CLO 3 and CLO 4
