Course Description
Within textile design, hybrid and interdisciplinary processes are emerging to evolve current industry practices to better align with the Sustainable Development Goals.
This course will immerse you in an interdisciplinary, experimental and playful environment to explore and speculate on future design practices, thinking, contexts and the role and capabilities of the textile designer. You will explore and combine a range of materials, digital technologies and traditional craft techniques to open new ways of conceptualising and constructing textile surfaces and form. You will also explore the relationship between 2d and 3d textiles and their material qualities to evaluate and communicate design concepts and multi-sensory experiences.

PLO1: Demonstrate broad knowledge of textile design creation and production with depth and expertise in one or more areas of practice.
PLO2: Develop conceptual, creative, technical and digital skills to deepen and synthesise knowledge of textile design applications and technologies.
PLO3: Apply design skills and knowledge to examine, analyse and creatively respond to contemporary issues in both local and global textile production.
PLO5: Demonstrate creative, critical textile design thinking that recognises emerging trends and issues suitable for contemporary textile design and related industries.
PLO7: Demonstrate an awareness of the cultural, social, ethical and environmental contexts and impacts of textile design and related industries.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:
CLO1: Identify and discuss contemporary developments and emerging trends in textiles, textile thinking and textile design practices.
CLO2: Work collaboratively to apply textile practices that align with the Sustainable Development Goals.
CLO3: Explore, sample and document textile design material techniques and processes.
CLO4: Create and communicate textile prototype concepts and multi-sensory experiences.

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of in-class and online activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. Class activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand textile design practice.

Overview of Assessment
You will be assessed on how well you meet the course learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes.
Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:
Assessment 1: Design Ways (10%) CLO 1 and CLO 2
Assessment 2: Practical Experimentation (40%) CLO 1, CLO 2 and CLO 3
Assessment 3: Design Concepts (50%) CLO 2, CLO 3 and CLO 4
