Required Prior Study

Successful completion of GRAP2888 Advanced Fashion Design Strategies and GRAP2889 Advanced Fashion Practice Research Methods before you commence this course.

Required Concurrent Study

Undertake GRAP2893 Masters Fashion Design Project at the same time as this course as it contains areas of knowledge and skills which are implemented together in practice.


Course Description

This course complements Masters Fashion Design Project and provides the framework for you to showcase your fashion body of work. It supports you in the development of appropriate dissemination and communication methodologies to enable the public presentation of your final project, and the finalisation of a professional portfolio appropriate for global distribution.

Through collaboration with creative practitioners you will facilitate an industry interface for your practice, enabling you to publicly present your work to the fashion community. Activities will relate to the dissemination of individual and collective fashion practices and will include preparation for dissemination of your major project through catwalk, exhibition, publication, film or other presentation forms.

In this course you will develop the following program learning outcomes:

PLO5: Professionally communicate design and creative propositions, processes and outcomes to address specialist and non-specialist audiences

PLO6: Provide design leadership to effectively plan and manage the implementation of new directions and strategies within the local, national and global fashion industry as well as effectively collaborate with others

PLO7: Implement research methods and design strategies to design and execute substantial projects, evaluate the outcomes and contribute to the fashion profession and the field of knowledge in the discipline

PLO8: Master a body of knowledge and specific technical and research skills to progress your professional career within the contemporary field of fashion


Course Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

CLO1: Research, select and realise the most appropriate dissemination approach to showcase your fashion design practice

CLO2: Explore and professionally articulate your fashion design practice through various communication interfaces relevant to future industry practice and or further research 

CLO3: Work collaboratively with creative practitioners in the field of fashion communication and dissemination

CLO4: Research and select appropriate communication methodologies for your individual practice within an analytical and reflective framework


Overview of Learning Activities

Your learning will be facilitated via a range of studio based activities that will require both individual and collaborative engagement. 

Learning activities promote your ability to explore design, investigate, analyse and understand fashion practice. 

Tutorials, workshops, site visits and masterclasses are facilitated by teaching staff, industry practitioners, research specialists and guests. These act as a catalyst to develop your specialisations of fashion practice, contexts that you would like to practice in, investigations into fashion photography and graphic design to refine and advance your skills in documenting work, producing fashion images and content informed by ways to communicate and present these.

RMIT will provide you with resources and tools for learning in this course through our online systems. A list of recommended learning resources will be provided by your lecturer, including books, journal articles and web resources.

You will also be expected to seek further resources relevant to the focus of your own learning. RMIT Library provides extensive resources for fashion and textiles students. Search the library and consult the Fashion and Textiles Subject Guides for more information.

The library also provides guides on academic referencing and assistance is available via phone, chat and email.


Overview of Assessment

You will be assessed on how well you meet the courses learning outcomes and on your development against the program learning outcomes. Assessment tasks are directly aligned with each Course Learning Outcome. They are as follows:


Assessment Task 1: Public Fashion Bodies and Objects - Presentation and realisation of your Masters project to a public audience/context/site, 40%
CLOs: 1, 3, 4 

Assessment Task 2: Expanded Fashion Imagery – Visual presentation and communication of Masters project and practice - Folio of documentation of Masters practice with specific relation to field/industry/market, 60% 
CLOs: 1, 2
