Course Description
Contemporary business – regardless of size or industry – operates not just within domestic legal frameworks, but international ones too. This course provides you with an overview of the various international legal and regulatory regimes that govern and impact the conduct of business and global commerce, and the institutions that support them. This course will examine the impact of State-based international law, and “soft-law” legal instruments that seek to regulate international commercial activities – including international trade law and international protections over intellectual property, international contract law pertaining to the international sale of goods and the transport of those goods overseas. You will develop an understanding of the value and relevance of international commercial and trade law to the conduct of modern business enterprises, and how international commercial disputes are resolved.

On successful completion of this course, you should be able to:
CLO1: Identify he key features, concepts and legal rules in international trade and commercial law.
CLO2: Apply relevant international legal principles to common cross-border commercial disputes or issues, including those surrounding the international sale of goods and global trade agreements.
CLO3: Research, analyse and evaluate issues in International trade and business law.
CLO4: Reflect on how international law seeks to promote and enhance global commerce, and critique international trade law’s impact on commerce and society.
CLO5: Evaluate different means of resolving international commercial disputes.

To achieve the objectives this course requires you to participate in various learning activities. These activities comprise of lectures, tutorials, self directed learning, participation through in-class and online activities, legal writing exercises, collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects, and a final examination.
