Course Description

This course aims to build your capacity for effective cultural development planning and in doing so achieve better outcomes for cultural events and/or programs.

Using frameworks developed by the Cultural Development Network, you will learn an evidence-based and outcomes-focussed approach to planning that is consistent and integrated within an organisation’s planning activity. You will also learn to evaluate the overall effectiveness of a plan and its activities.

The frameworks offered in this course have been developed within the sector in the context of key national and international policy agendas and are informed by contemporary approaches to planning and governance.

The course focuses on the local government sector but is applicable to anyone seeking to work within a cultural organisation or seek funding for cultural activities.


Objectives/Learning Outcomes/Capability Development

  


Upon successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Build knowledge and experience in cultural development planning and evaluation
  2. Investigate and evaluate values, principles and goals of cultural development projects
  3. Formulate and present an evidence-based and relevant cultural development plan which demonstrates achievable and needs based outcomes


Overview of Learning Activities

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as lectures, tutorials, seminars, project work, class discussion, individual and group activities, studio/industry visits, field trips and/or industry-based projects Delivery may be face-to-face, online or a mix of both.

Classes are designed to build capacity for cultural planning and evaluation. Learning activities may include:

  • Corporate plan analysis
  • Researching and synthesising evidence
  • Determining methods of evaluation and stakeholder communication
  • Identifying  requirements of  cultural development plans
