Course Description

This course explores core aspects of investment theory and corporate financial management to equip students with the necessary tools to analyse critical financial decisions from the perspective of investors and financial managers. This course is designed to provide you with the theoretical and practical skills of financial management, with particular emphasis on, capital budgeting, investment analysis, capital structure, dividend policy, and corporate acquisition. You will evaluate and analyse issues related to the theories of investment management, corporate financial management, the analytical techniques used to value assets and projects including net present value so as to account for uncertainty, taxes, strategic concerns and various aspects.

CLO1: Analyse corporate financial decisions in the context of complex environments and competitive dynamics.

CLO2: Appraise investment opportunities and estimate the appropriate cost of capital to solve problems relating to the firm’s investment decisions.

CLO3: Examine the general investment framework and apply security valuation techniques to analyse the performance of an actual company.

CLO4: Justify the use of leverage, recognise the constraints borrowers face in its use and the procedures of raising long term capital.

CLO5: Evaluate dividend policy and identify the motivation and procedures for mergers and acquisitions.

CLO6: Assess real problems in business and recognise the practical difficulties in applying the theory.
