Course Description

In order to be able to confidently make decisions and achieve results, the future business professional needs to develop capabilities that include: understanding the organisational horizon; gathering and analysing data to understand current context of the business; the ability to apply decision-making processes; calculate risks; propose directions; and develop persuasive arguments. Other important capabilities include seeking counsel from peers and experts; considering the impacts of decisions and developing mitigation strategies; and leading change. This course will support you in developing and applying these capabilities in a range of authentic applications.

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:

  1. Evaluate how businesses develop and configure their activities based on stakeholder needs, motivations, perceptions and attitudes.
  2. Apply decision-making methodologies within a business context.
  3. Integrate organisational requirements, values and valid evidence when making decisions and communicate these persuasively to stakeholders.
  4. Consider the results of your decision/s and evaluate whether they have resolved the need/s you identified.
  5. Undertake reflective praxis regarding your personal development of capabilities related to decision-making and achieving outcomes.


Overview of Learning Activities

This course is delivered as a blend of face-to-face activities and online learning. Learning will be supported through in-class and online activities such as: personal development activities; guest speakers/expert commentators; prescribed readings; practical tasks; seeking and providing peer feedback; and reflective praxis.
