Course Description
Can a business make the world a better place? The Global Business Sustainability Project helps students explore the answer to this question from a practical perspective. Businesses operate in an intricate global setting, interacting with the economy, society and the environment in a complex way. Established and existing businesses have an opportunity to lead significant and transformative improvements in the quality of people’s lives. In this course, we explore how a business can do this by building on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Together, staff and students discover how a start-up or an established enterprise can achieve sustainability. Students taking this course will leave with practical experience about how socially-minded businesses operate, who they work with and why, as well as an understanding about how to make sustainability work from a business perspective.

On successful completion of this course you should be able to:
- Review sustainability frameworks and practices, locally and globally.
- Reflect upon societal views and expectations towards sustainability, identifying enablers and barriers that impact outcomes.
- Review relevant technologies and frameworks that enable innovation in sustainability practices.
- Develop relevant strategies and a project action plan to implement solutions that are responsive to identified problems and opportunities.
- Demonstrate self-management skills in a professional context, reflect on and assess your own capabilities and performance, and make use of feedback where appropriate to support personal and professional development.
Overview of Learning Activities
This course is delivered as a blend of face-to-face activities (such as: workshops, lectures and group or industry-based tasks) and online learning. Learning will be focused around the completion of a 12-week project, which will be supported through in-class and online activities. This may include: project development activities; guest speakers/expert commentators; prescribed readings; researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; producing artefacts; proposing solutions; seeking and providing peer feedback; and reflective praxis.
