Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

This course develops integrated technical and professional capabilities for Associate Degree students based on knowledge and skills developed in previous courses and current study.


Course Description

This course is undertaken in the final year of the Associate Degree in Digital Technologies (industry 4.0) program. It involves simulated Work Integrated Learning (WIL), during which you will be required to undertake a capstone project simulating industry based tasks. To complete this capstone project, you will be required to develop, manage and achieve the same objectives and outcomes as you would if you were undertaking an Industry 4.0 technologies project in the workplace.
The capstone project will require you to utilise a range of skills to complete the project. You will be expected to demonstrate both your technical and project management skills to achieve a successful project outcome. You will be required to utilise multiple Industry 4.0 technologies, software applications including Mindsphere and supply chain 4.0. You will apply and demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have developed across all the courses you have undertaken in this program. You will also be introduced to HCD (Human Centre Design), the key skills in problem solving and designing cross discipline solution for Industry 4.0.

You will work on the project in a small team and will be completing most of the works during teacher-guided tutorial classes. You will be provided with regular feedback on your progress by the teaching team and industry partners. Industry involvement in this capstone project will include:

• the project brief developed in collaboration with industry to ensure authenticity to industry 4.0 practices.
• class-wide industry feedback and guidance at a midway point of project development.
• evaluation of a sample of projects and class-focused feedback on completion.

Peer feedback is a mandatory requirement within the group work settings to ensure that you and your group members are contributing to project. A number of RMIT Micro-Credentials have also been incorporated to enhance your employability skills.

You will be able to access course information and learning materials through the course CANVAS. Your
course CANVAS will give you access to important course-related information such as announcements, staff contact details, online lecture notes and exercises, tutorials, assignment, and other learning resources. Access to CANVAS will be instructed in detail during the course introduction session. Lists of relevant reference books and digitalized materials at RMIT libraries will be available as well. You will also use laboratory equipment and computer software within the School for the project work.
