Course Description

In this course you will explore the evolving world of podcasting, examining a range of forms of audio storytelling and the production techniques behind them. You will listen to a range of podcasts and identify the skills required to create a high quality production in a range of formats. You will develop a critical awareness of the techniques used to tell stories through sound and gain the technical skills to produce podcasts end-to-end.

This course focuses on fact-based and topical podcasts which reflect contemporary issues and emerging trends in podcasting.

This is an Option course, which will complement the learning outcomes you are developing in your program.


Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Examine and discuss the role of podcasting and trends in podcasting practice
  2. Produce podcasts in a range of formats
  3. Achieve basic technical proficiency in audio recording and editing for podcasts
  4. Identify and analyse ethical issues and decisions relevant to the practise of podcasting

You will be actively engaged in a range of learning activities such as studios, project work, lectures, tutorials, class discussion, individual and group activities. Delivery may be face to face, online or a mix of both.

Assessment Tasks

Assessment Task 1: Podcast Analysis (20%) Linked CLOs 1,4.

Assessment Task 2:  The Package (40%) Linked CLOs 1,2,3 and 4.

Assessment Task 3 The Podcast Story (40%) Linked CLOs 1,2,3 and 4.
