Course Description

This course focuses upon the legal dimensions of global issues confronting organisations, leaders, managers and employees as national and international boundaries become less relevant. Issues covered will include cultural, political and social change and their legal implications for domestic legal systems and businesses. There will be a particular focus on the legal aspects of business decisions, sustainability (including Sustainable Development Goals), and managing people in a global business environment.

On successful completion of this course you will be able to:

  1. Critically analyse issues and situations that reflect an understanding of the interlinkages between local, national and global dynamics.
  2. Critically reflect upon the processes of cultural and social adjustment involved in living and studying in another culture.
  3. Draw insight across different disciplinary perspectives and synthesise disciplinary approaches with a focus on how they contribute to legal practice beyond borders
  4. Research selected aspects of the practice of law including the legal system, legal practice, the legal profession and institutions of law in the destination country and compare with the Australian legal system.

These may include quizzes; assignments; prescribed readings; sourcing, researching and analysing specific information; solving problems; conducting presentations; producing written work and collaborating with peers on set tasks or projects.
