Course Description

In this course you will need to demonstrate that you have the required skills and knowledge to implement and monitor OHS policies and procedures within a work area where discretion and judgement may be required, for both yourself and others, in planning and selecting processes, procedures or outcomes. The work may be conducted in a variety of environments such as:
• operational workplace activities
• restricted spaces
• hazardous, controlled or exposed conditions
• day or night operations

Pre-requisite Courses and Assumed Knowledge and Capabilities

This course has no prerequisites however students will be expected to undetake OHS inductions in all practical workshops where classes are conducted as part of their studies

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this unit you will be able to demonstrates skills to:
• analyse the work environment in order to identify hazards, assess risks and judge when intervention to control risks is necessary
• analyse relevant workplace data to identify hazards, assess risks and evaluate the effectiveness of risk control measures
• assess the resources needed to apply different risk control measures and make recommendations to management on that basis
• read, interpret and follow information on work specifications, standard operating procedures and work instructions and other reference material
• maintain accurate records
• communicate within the workplace
• sequence operations
• meet specifications
• clarify and check task-related information
• carry out work according to OHS practices


Overview of Assessment

To achieve successful completion of this course you must demonstrate an understanding of all the elements of the Competency.
Assessment methods have been designed to measure achievement of each element in a flexible manner over a range of assessment tasks.
Assessment may incorporate a variety of methods including technical requirements documentation, homework and in class exercises, written tests, practical problem solving exercises and practical tests.
You are likely to be asked to personally demonstrate as part of your assessment how you undertake practical exercises as part of class work to your teacher to ensure that the relevant competency standards are being met.
