Course Description

If you are undertaking this course in Melbourne from semester 2, 2012 onward your class will be held in a device-equipped teaching space. Each student group will have access to a laptop. It is however recommended that you have access to a mobile computing device to allow greater flexibility in terms of where you can work on campus both in and outside class times.

This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to plan documents, draft text, prepare final text and produce documents of some complexity.
No licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of endorsement.

Overview of Assessment

A range of assessment methods should be used to assess practical skills and knowledge. The following examples are appropriate for this unit:
• direct questioning combined with review of portfolios of evidence and third party workplace reports of on-the-job performance by the candidate
• review of structure and content of documents
• review of draft documents
• review of final documents
• demonstration of techniques
• oral or written questioning to assess knowledge of word processing software functions.
 

Critical aspects for assessment and evidence required to demonstrate competency in this unit are as follows

Evidence of the following is essential:
• production of documents
• editing draft text to ensure accuracy and clarity of information
• knowledge of enterprise style guide/house style.
