Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to transfer oral records and mount models on an articulator in the reference determined by the clinician. You will mount the registration rims constructed in previous exercises on different types of articulators as required for the type of dental appliance you are constructing - eg. full denture, partial denture. Once mounted you will transfer the oral records from the wax registration rim to the plaster model.
All procedures are carried out in accordance with work health and safety (WHS) policies and procedures, current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards, state/territory legislative requirements and organisation policy.

You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;

  1. Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self reflection of each exercise
  2. Practical exam - Articulation of F/F registration rims (previously constructed in ’Construct Registration Rims’ practical exam) on a fixed movement articulator within the time limit of 1 hour.
  3. Theory exam - pass mark 60%
