Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge you require to construct thermoformed bases and appliances such as mouthguards - used for a range of sports and bleaching trays - for cosmetic enhancements of patients. You will also cover a broader range of appliances in the theory content of the unit to give you an understanding of the different applications of thermoformed material in the Dental industry.All procedures are carried out in accordance with occupational health and safety policies and procedures, current infection control guidelines, Australian and New Zealand Standards, State/Territory legislative requirements and organisation policy.

You will be assessed in a simulated workplace and under the normal range of work conditions.

You will be assessed on both the essential knowledge and the demonstration of essential skills through;

  1. Completion of practical exercises - including detailed self-reflection or each exercise
  2. Practical exam
  3. Theory exam
