Course Description

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to establish blockchain in supply chains. It includes preparing for blockchain, developing a strategy for blockchain, implementing and managing blockchain, managing change associated with blockchain and reviewing and reporting on blockchain.

Blockchain is a decentralised, shared, immutable database of transactions that uses consensus mechanisms to operate. Blockchain networks can be public with anyone able to join and see any transaction that happens. A private (permissioned) blockchain, that restricts who can access the network, is required when working with supply chains. Participants in the supply chain using blockchain will determine what data is seen by whom.

Learning Outcomes

The digitisation of transactions and data using blockchain enables supply chain organisations to implement and monitor their ethical practices, contract management, traceability, transparency, authenticity and compliance programs.

The unit is applicable to those with management or team leadership responsibilities within a supply chain.


Overview of Assessment

Assessment Conditions

Assessors must hold credentials specified within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must satisfy the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence and all regulatory requirements included within the Standards for Registered Training Organisations current at the time of assessment.

Assessment must occur in workplace operational situations where it is appropriate to do so. Where this is not appropriate, assessment must occur in simulated workplace operational situations that replicate workplace conditions.

Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.

Resources for assessment must include access to a range of

  • exercises, case studies and/or other simulations
  • materials, tools and equipment used in industry
  • documentation including organisational policies and procedures, industry standards, regulations, codes of practice, operational manuals and equipment specifications.       

Knowledge Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and includes knowledge of

  • blockchain strategy development and implementation including Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • capabilities of blockchain
  •       change management principles including opportunities and methods for training, coaching, mentoring and networking

  • establishment requirement for blockchain

  • legislative and regulatory obligations, industry standards and codes of practice
  • onboarding and access control mechanisms for blockchain users

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and includes

  • addressing and documenting supply chain stakeholder blockchain concerns and complaints
  • communicating and working with supply chain stakeholders
  • confirming the level of responsibility and authority for establishing blockchain in the supply chain
  • defining and implementing blockchain compliance protocols
  • developing and applying policies, procedures and processes including customer assistance and data distribution protocols
  • documenting blockchain continuous improvement recommendations
  • establishing blockchain strategy and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • identifying applicable legislative requirements, industry standards and codes of practice
  • identifying risks related to blockchain and implementing risk controls
  • managing blockchain onboarding and access control mechanisms
  • mapping supply chain collaborations, relationships and stakeholders
  • preparing and presenting reports on blockchain
  • reviewing blockchain strategy and KPIs outcomes
  • undertaking change management activities including training, mentoring, coaching and networking
  • working with supply chain stakeholders to establish blockchain.
