History of the Internal Audit Group

The Internal Audit Group was established during the latter part of 1992 following enactment of the RMIT Act 1992, which required that RMIT Council maintain an effective system of internal audit.

The Group currently adopts a partial outsourcing approach utilising both in-house internal audit staff and external contract resources.

The Future of Auditing

The Internal Audit Group's focus is satisfying its customers' needs. Opportunities for the Group's future at RMIT revolve around further developing its management consulting capabilities, and adopting a collaborative approach with management in the execution of internal audit projects. This approach assists RMIT in achieving its strategic objectives.

Key areas where Internal Audit will be focusing its efforts in the future include:

reducing or eliminating customer expectation gaps;
refining the alignment of the internal audit strategy with general business strategy;
adopting effective and user friendly reporting styles; and
further developing internal management consulting capabilities.
