Program leader's annual report guidelines

These guidelines were approved in principle at the joint meeting of Academic Board and BoTS on 7 May 2001.

The items listed constitute minimum requirements. It is expected that Faculties will add further advice or sections depending on local and university priorities in particular years.  Faculties may choose to adopt different strategies for submitting different parts of the report - for instance, it may be decided to use the IC2000 website to share and discuss draft reports on strategies in relation to internationalising curriculum.

1.   Implementation

  • any changes in management processes

  • current and impending variations in the program, including renewal activities and delivery strategies.
If superseded versions of the program are still available to completing students, indicate how many students are involved and how their needs are being addressed.

  • progress and evaluation of previous action plans

  • themes revealed by recent staff, program, year and course-level feedback, including complaints

  • strengths in relation to criteria

  • areas for improvement

  • goals, strategies and action plans for the following year, with resource implications

  • action needed from other parts of the university

2.  Design [particularly at end of years 1 and 2, year 4]

  • check on coherence of learning activities, assessment tasks & criteria and capabilities - revisit program and course maps, elective elements

  • effectiveness in relation to development of capabilities

  • changes undertaken/still needed, action planned

3.     Currency

Comment on

  • demand for places - how is recruitment going, who is applying?

  • expected and actual demand for graduates [using statistics for field of study until graduate data available]

[particularly from year 3]

  • recent and prospective developments in the discipline

  • changes and likely developments in industry, including impact on practice of developments in information technology. Sources to include discussions with Program Advisory Committee, other programs in discipline/industry.

  • development and research strategies, including curriculum modifications and extensions

Documentation to be attached as agreed within Faculty.

Reports for years 1 and 2 plus update identifying key issues for discussion to be provided to peer reviewers as basis for review workshop in year 3.   Reviewers’ report following review workshop to be attached to report in year 3.
