Program Description – Certificate IV in DesignThe Certificate IV in Design program aims to provide students with a base qualification with potential to move to higher levels of studies and positions in the discipline of design including product design, graphic arts, multimedia and more general design areas. It also compliments other vocational training, adding design as an additional discipline. The program features are directed towards an individual folio of creative work that could be used for either application to higher levels of study, or an entry point into industry. The features include; Media and drawing techniques, exploration of typography and 2D design, digital photography and film, and digital manipulation of design and images using a variety of software, 3D design and construction techniques and underpinning history and theories around design. |
The one year Certificate is nationally accredited and has recently undergone development into a Training Package. This process has resulted in an industry relevant and endorsed qualification that is recognised nationally.

Year 12 applicants; Successful completion of VCE or equivalent
All applicants need to apply through VTAC and will be subject to a selection process that requires the presentation of a folio of work in an interview.
The Certificate can lead to the following educational pathways; Communication Design, Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, Mulitmedia, Product Design and Visual Merchandising, Interior Design and Decoration, and Advertising (creative).
RMIT accepts and will credit transfer successfully completed equivalent qualifications that are part of the Australian Qualifications Framework. Programs and units must be verified by an original statement of attainment (official transcript of results) from other Registered Training Organisations.
The program prepares students for further study related to the area for industry and employment in the graphic design or product design fields or if the student is already in industry, program can add value to current career prospects.
