Graphic Art

Program Description – Diploma of Arts (Graphic Arts)

The Graphic Art program is designed to develop the skills and knowledge which will enable students to pursue careers in the Graphic Art industry in a range of positions or to work as an independent graphic artist in Australia and internationally.

The Diploma of Art (Graphic Art) offers base design courses but the focus is on technical computer skills, pre-press and print requirements. Graduates are highly employable at the end of this program.

The two year Diploma is an industry relevant and endorsed qualification that is recognised nationally.

The first year of the program develops skills and knowledge in design, typography, layout, digital imaging, drawing, illustration, reprographics and pre-press. Underpinning all these areas is the development of software understanding and application in a critical study area of Finished Art.

In the second year of study the skills and knowledge obtained in the first year are consolidated into a portfolio for employment.

A period of work experience in the second semester of second year places the student into a design studio or agency and gives them the opportunity to work with the design team on briefs and projects and to network within the industry.
