Web Development

We have a broad range of skills including HTML, Flash and database development. Increasingly, there is a need to develop sites to allow non-technical users to update web content and maintain sites. EMG facilitates this through our own developments and by investigating and trialling proprietary applications.

We follow the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 and are members of the Web Accessibility Network for Australian Universities and Web Standards Group - Melbourne.

Video/Audio Production

Our video producers are experts in script writing, studio and location video production, audio recording, video editing and digital delivery techniques.

Video and audio production has been a valuable part of RMIT's educational delivery for many years. With the development of the Internet, CD-ROM and DVD, the role of video and audio production has correspondingly expanded across the university and can now be a core part of online course delivery.

Photography

Our photographer is available for location or studio photography that supports teaching and learning, research and images of long-term significance to the university. Most of these images are included in RMIT Images which is a library of around 10,000 RMIT copyright images that can be used for any bona fide university business.

Animation

We have produced hundreds of animations, interactive activities and simulations. These are most commonly developed in Flash.

The complexity of these can vary from a simple animation to an interactive activity with complex action script programming. They can then be uploaded into the DLS, built into a website or demonstrated in a lecture.

Online Course Development

The diversity of RMIT necessitates equally diverse methods for delivering courseware and other material. The EMG provides support for the development of media that can be delivered via a range of platforms and media formats. These include:

  • The DLS – Blackboard
  • Offshore Delivery: RMIT Vietnam – Blackboard, African Virtual University – WebCT
  • CD, DVD and tape format

Multimedia

New software packages now enable us to integrate video, photographs, drawings, text and animations in whatever way best suits the needs of our clients and the student body. Delivered on-line or by DVD or CD-Rom our multimedia presentations allow the student to learn at their own pace and in their own time and are becoming increasingly popular as a means of presenting complex demonstrations and learning activities.

RMIT Design and Production Network

The EMG identified the need to establish a network to bring together the pockets of production groups throughout the University. The DPN forums have proven a great success in facilitating this community of practice to meet and share their work, research and challenges.
