Atticus Bastow explores the intersection of industrial and natural spaces through sonic ambiences and installation.
Mass is a transplantation of sonic and physical ambiences. Delivered via headphone listening and magnifying glass viewing, and catalysed by the oppressive heat of the blackened room, the synergy between the components creates a site for critical examination and intimate embodied immersion. Comprised of physical and audible artefacts collected by the artist during his participation in the Bogong Centre for Sound Culture supported residency program, Mass layers time and place to create a spatio-temporal narrative that encompasses the infancy of the extant stone, unto the static breath of the power station turbines in the present; the power station cut and built into the very stone it now sings to.
This project has been supported by the Bogong Centre for Sound Culture.
