The Centre for People, Organisation and Work and the Social Change Enabling Capability Platform present a special research and industry workshop.
This half-day research and industry workshop is jointly hosted by The Centre for People, Organisation and Work and the Social Change Research Enabling Capability Platform at RMIT University.
The Workshop will bring together practitioners/workers, unions, social care advocacy groups, public policy makers and academics to discuss the implications for job quality and care quality in individualised or ‘cash for care’ social care systems, drawing on international experience in this area.
Dr Shereen Hussein (Principal Research Fellow, King’s College London) will present on the UK experience of the impact of individualised social care on direct care workers.
Professor Gabrielle Meagher (Macquarie University) will respond to Dr Hussein’s paper drawing on Australia’s experience to date before opening up to broad discussion with workshop participants.
Dr Cynthia Cranford (University of Toronto) will present on North American trade union and disability group efforts to match flexible responsive services with decent work for disability workers. A panel discussion will follow including Lloyd Williams, Victorian State Secretary of the Health and Community Services Union, and a disability rights advocate (TBC) and then open up to broad discussion with workshop participants.
Morning tea will be provided between the two sessions with a light lunch following the second session.
