Discover where a career in health and medical sciences can take you through presentations and interactive workshops at the Experience Health and Medical Sciences Day at the Bundoora campus.
Are you interested in making a difference to the lives of individuals, families and the community? Or providing practical solutions to global health issues? Are you in year 10, 11 or 12?
At the Experience Health and Medical Sciences Day, you’ll undertake a range of workshops where you’ll discover a career in health and medical sciences.
You’ll get the chance to check out our Bundoora campus west, meet other high school students interested in health and medical sciences, and meet current RMIT students.
- Anatomy - Where in the body is your...
Take a closer look at the human body using a combination of learning approaches; cadaveric specimens (dissected human bodies), plastinated specimens, "whiteboarding", play-dohing and surface anatomy (including body painting). You’ll learn about the main organs and discuss health issues that can impact on their function.
- Chinese medicine - Harmonising east and west
This workshop explores Chinese medicine and other therapeutic approaches to health and wellbeing. You will experiment with Chinese Medicine techniques such as cupping, acupuncture and herbal medicine. You’ll learn about the therapeutic value of Chinese herbs and get to make your own herbal acne cream.
- Chiropractic - Health in your hands
In this hands-on practical workshop you’ll learn about where a career in chiropractic can take you.
- Haematology - What does your blood test mean?
You’ll investigate, problem-solve and develop practical skills in the Haematology Laboratory. You will be given a case study where you’ll become the investigator and ‘solve the case’. You’ll look at different human blood cells, perform a blood group and look at some preserved abnormal organs and specimens… Not for the faint-hearted!
- Medical radiations - Understanding the three streams
Medical radiations comprises of three distinct professions within health care; medical imaging (including sonography), nuclear medicine and radiation therapy. Each area involves either finding disease or injuries and/or treating pathological conditions. This workshop will involve demonstrations and practical exercises in all three areas.
- Nursing labs introduction
This workshop will give you the opportunity to observe and experience the role and application of various equipment utilised within the nursing profession. You’ll use Pulse Oximitry to test O2 saturation and a stethoscope to assess different heart and lung sounds. You’ll also get to work with sophisticated mannequins programmed to simulate various physical symptoms and conditions.

RMIT University offers a number of free events designed to encourage students from years 10, 11 and 12 to engage in hands-on workshops, explore life on campus and get behind the scenes, while experiencing different aspects of discipline areas.
