Background InformationThe reputation of the School of Fashion & Textiles as one of the world's leading fashion and textile institutions is based on our engagement with research, education and training across the entire fashion and textiles supply chain, ranging from research into fibres, to design, manufacturing and retail. Research is an integral part of the School of Fashion and Textiles profile. The school’s recent profile is focused upon its specialist expertise in performance textiles and digital design through research clusters within the Textile, Design and Fashion disciplines. The research undertaken is characterised by an engagement with Post Graduate students, schools such as Aerospace and Architecture, RMIT University Research Centres (Design and Platform Technologies), other research institutes such as CSIRO, industry and international partners. Recent investments by the school in Shimaseki for seamless knitting, thermal manikin for comfort apparel, digital printing and, solid weaving technology allows researchers to explore new and exciting fields in Textiles, Design and Fashion. Our approach to research and to teaching is innovative and enterprising. The relaxed and friendly atmosphere in the School of Fashion & Textiles promotes a vibrant learning and research environment. Selection process and criteriaThe process for prospective students seeking enrolment in one of the School of Fashion and Textiles research programs (Master of Arts, Master of Technology and PhD) is outlined in the University Research profile. Students are encouraged to contact the schools HDR coordinator Dr. Rajiv Padhye to discuss potential research topics and the availability of suitable supervisors. Applications are processed through the Graduate Research office and assessed by the School and Portfolio. The processing time varies for different applicants, and the time of the year. The majority of selection decisions are made during December to March for Semester One and June to August for Semester Two.
