About Higher Degrees by Research

The School of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning offers Masters by Research and Doctor of Philosophy programs in the social sciences. Currently over 140 research students are enrolled in the School, aligned with one of the School’s areas of research strength, which include:

  • Applied criminology
  • International development
  • International studies
  • Social and political theory
  • Social policy and evaluation
  • Social work theory and practice
  • Urban and environmental policy and planning
  • Youth work theory and practice

Three research centres are located within the School, and many postgraduate research supervisors and students are aligned with one of these centres:
