Purpose of the Program

On successful completion of the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Network Engineering) (Honours)/Bachelor of Business (Mgt), you will be able to work within a wide range of organisations and industries in varied roles, and career entry positions, such as business administration, management consulting and strategy analysis.  The program will provide you with a basis for further development of your knowledge and skills in management, and for further study in business and management.  

The Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Network Engineering) (Honours) provides you with the knowledge and skills essential for a professional career. On graduation from this program, you should be ready to take up employment in the fields of management, computer engineering, network engineering and related industries, including the aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, electrical, computing, resource, defence, and primary industries.

You will undertake a capstone experience in the final year courses OENG1167 Engineering Capstone Project Part A and OENG1168 Engineering Capstone Project Part B, in which you will conduct a research project that can be analytical, experimental, design or computational in nature (or some combination).

The Bachelor of Business (Management) program provides you with critical and broad ranging studies to enable you to enter graduate positions in administration and management.  The program provides you with opportunities to develop the required knowledge and outcomes to operate successfully in contemporary environments.  You will be able to apply the knowledge and skills gained in the core areas of management in a diverse range of political, social, environmental and economic contexts.

This program will actively explore and apply management theory through problem-based and work-relevant activities which may include face-to-face, online, self-directed, collaborative and individual learning experience and is delivered on-campus.

In the fourth year of the program, the capstone experience course BUSM4546 Organisational Experience provides the culmination of the knowledge, skills and applied work practice experiences that prepare you to transit into business world.

This program is primarily delivered in face-to-face mode at the City Campus. While most courses in the program are delivered on campus, others are delivered online.

Articulation and pathways

Pathways

Graduates will be able to proceed to a coursework Masters degree in Telecommunication and Network Engineering (MC234) or related fields, subject to meeting the general admission criteria.

Outstanding graduates from this program may be able to proceed to a research degree including Masters by Research or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), subject to meeting the general admission criteria.

Students who apply to transfer to one of the single degrees that are components of this double degree program, will be eligible for credit for any equivalent courses in the single degree structure, and may transfer credit for any other courses that can meet elective requirements of the single degree structure.

Entrance requirements

Program entry requirements

BH107CNHDD Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Network Engineering) (Honours) / Bachelor of Business (Management) has been discontinued and will no longer accept new students from 2020. 

Successful completion of an Australian Year 12 senior secondary certificate of education or equivalent.

Prerequisites

Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) prerequisite units 3 and 4 — a study score of at least 20 in Mathematical Methods (CAS) or Specialist Mathematics, and a study score of at least 30 in English (ESL) or at least 25 in any other English.

English language requirements

A minimum IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band below 6.0; or equivalent.

Engineering
The Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Network Engineering) (Honours)/Bachelor of Business (Management) is fully accredited by Engineers Australia. Engineers Australia is the professional body responsible for the accreditation of higher education programs that prepare students to practise as professional engineers. Engineers Australia is a signatory to the Washington Accord. This means that the program is internationally recognised and graduates are able to practise as professional engineers in many countries around the world. Graduates of the Bachelor of Engineering (Computer and Network Engineering) (Honours)/Bachelor of Business (Management) are eligible for graduate and/or professional membership of Engineers Australia.

Business

This program is not accredited by professional bodies. However, some professional bodies may offer qualification recognition post-graduation on a case by case basis. Students and/or graduates should contact the professional body of interest directly to seek advice on recognition of their qualification.

Industry Links
The School of Engineering and the School of Management have extensive links with industry through their Industry Advisory Committees, and through research projects and consulting services. Membership of these Committees includes practising engineers or senior executives from a number of major national companies, consultants and past graduates from the schools. Their involvement ensures that the program remains relevant to your needs as a graduate, and to the needs of employers, by providing feedback on the currency of the programs and the changing needs of industry. They also contribute significantly through input into the design of new programs.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Resources available from the Library
As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT http://www.rmit.edu.au/myrmit or Library e-resources. If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT wireless network in the Library.

Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.

The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.

The School of Electrical and Computer Engineering has many laboratories, often with specialised equipment, to support the relevant teaching and learning activities, and most of these labs have been upgraded in recent years, to ensure that you have access to modern computers and equipment that you are likely to use in industry.
