This qualification provides the skills and knowledge for an individual to administer and manage information and communications technology (ICT) support in small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) using a wide range of general ICT technologies.
Undertaking this qualification will prepare you for jobs in a range of potential industries.
Possible job titles relevant to this qualification include:
- Information systems office manager
- Office systems administrator
- IT office manager
- IT systems administrator
- Systems manager
In addition to specialised skills, this program will also develop the core skills that you need to succeed in the workforce (see section on employability skills). In this program you will specifically be given a range of opportunities to communicate, connect, and work with students from a range of backgrounds.
The main form of delivery will be in the classroom with some supervised self-directed learning. As this is a full-time face-to-face program you are expected to be able to attend classes during business hours. Occasionally classes may be scheduled in the evenings although this is not generally available for this program.

The development of the program structure and the choice of elective units appropriate to the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector were informed by a Program Advisory Committee (PAC) comprised of representatives of the ICT industry and RMIT educators.
Teachers maintain close contact with industry through various professional development activities, and for sessional staff generally they maintain employment or operate their own businesses in a relevant sector. Swati Dave, Program Manager, regularly engages with extensive networks in the ICT area.
Teachers regularly engage guest speakers for the program. All learners participate in classes where they are assisted to make connections between theoretical concepts and the workplace. In some cases this is their own workplace. Mentoring and coaching by the facilitator in order to assist learners to make this connection is a major design feature of this program.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of a laptop/mobile device, lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library resources and services
As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.
