Purpose of the Program

The Diploma of Remedial Massage is designed to provide you with the underpinning theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely and effectively work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction, musculoskeletal imbalance or restrictions in range of motion (ROM). Graduates from this program may be able to work as independent private practitioners, as part of a team in a multi-disciplinary clinic or within a larger health service.

Objectives are reached through regular participation in practical classes, online classes, clinical practice, work integrated learning and practice study groups.

Graduates are encouraged to play an active role in industry and support is provided to assist applicants in gaining employment.  Membership of the RMIT Alumni community is encouraged to facilitate contacts within industry.

Articulation and pathways

Pathways refer to related programs for which you may be eligible once you have graduated from your current program. Upon successful completion of the Diploma of Remedial Massage you will be eligible to undertake further studies in the Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy at RMIT University.

Entrance requirements

Current Year 12—there are no prerequisite studies.

Non-Year 12 applicants are encouraged to apply and may be assessed based on prior work experience or study.

External accreditation and industry links

RMIT has significant links with the massage industry through its Program Advisory Committees as well as through Work Integrated Learning (WIL) where students participate in clinical placements with some of our industry partners. 

Successful graduates from this program can gain employment in the massage industry or be in independent private practice.

The Diploma of Remedial Massage is recognised by more than 10 professional organisations, including Massage and Myotherapy Australia and The Association of Massage Therapists (AMT)

On successful completion of the Diploma of Remedial Massage graduates are entitled to apply to Medibank Private and various other private health care providers for a provider number to be in independent private practice in Australia.  Please note that each health care provider has a range of criteria that must be met.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.

Library, IT and specialist resources

As a student enrolled in a program at RMIT University you can access the extensive services, facilities and study space provided by the Library. You can access books, journals and other course related materials, such as DVDs, past exams, newspapers and e-books. Through our document delivery service you can also request items from any library in the world.

Computers for study are available at every Library site, where you can access the Internet, myRMIT or Library e-resources. If you have a laptop you can access the RMIT wireless network in the Library.
Library staff can show you how to find information for your assignments or you can work through web-based tutorials or use our online Ask a Librarian service.

The Library is continually expanding our electronic collections to make it easier for you to get the information you need when you need it. All RMIT students have unlimited access to quality electronic resources such as, e-books, e-journals and newspapers.
