Purpose of the Program

The program has been designed for you to develop and extend knowledge and skills in the field of Visual Merchandising, specialising in display skills. You will monitor and evaluate current trends with a focus on new approaches. You will also interrogate key principles of display and design. The aim is that on completion of the program you will be a visual merchandising practitioner who can confidently work alone or with others in teams to support an increasingly diverse and global industry. Typical employment outcomes include employment in exhibition and event design, retail  and styling.

Individuals with this qualification are able to perform roles such as visual merchandiser, event visual merchandiser, retail store visual merchandiser and visual merchandising stylist. Good visual and verbal communication skills are necessary to ensure the visual merchandiser can promote and execute their ideas successfully.

Articulation and pathways

Successful completion of RMIT's Certificate IV in Design guarantees entry into this program.

Successful completion of this program guarantees entry into the follwing programs:

  • Associate Degree in Fashion and Textiles Merchandising
  • Associate Degree in Interior Decoration and Design 
  • Associate Degree in Graphic Design

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program.

There are no minimum academic requirements.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
