In the Advanced Diploma of Translating you will learn the skills and knowledge required to translate special purpose texts using specialist and complex language content and concepts. The qualification prepares you to work in domains that include legal, business, health, education and a wide range of community services.

Top of pageEntrance requirements
You must have:
- successfully completed the Interpreting Skills for NAATI Certification, Translating Skills for NAATI Certification or Translating and Interpreting Skills for NAATI Certification, OR
- successfully completed a Diploma of Interpreting, Diploma of Translating or equivalent in a related field, OR
- NAATI certification at Certified Provisional Interpreter, Recognised Practicing Interpreter or Certified Translator level or higher, OR
- at least 2 years of documented work experience as an interpreter or a translator.
If you are applying based on work experience you must include a CV that shows your relevant experience (i.e. you have been contracted, employed or engaged in translation or interpreting duties). You must also include referee details in your CV for employment verification. Voluntary or pro bono work will be considered.
International English language requirement
A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.

The program is endorsed by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters Ltd (NAATI). The Advanced Diploma of Translating meets the training prerequisite for translators who wish to sit the Certified Translator test with NAATI.
NAATI is the body responsible for setting and monitoring the standards for the translating and interpreting profession in Australia. It does this through its system of accreditation. Certain employment conditions, assignments and work roles will require practicing translators to have NAATI accreditation.

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees. Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
