Purpose of the Program

The Graduate Diploma in Property has been designed to develop the specialised knowledge and skills required to practice as a property advisor or manager.  The program aims to develop your advanced knowledge of these interrelated fields including though analysing property data and information from diverse sources, thinking critically, conducting research, and through your knowledge and application of investment and valuation techniques and your critical engagement with the legal and regulatory frameworks which govern the property sector. You will also develop the analytical and technical skills required to utilise theoretical knowledge and published data to inform your decision making as a property professional.

Graduates may pursue many professional pathways, including work in corporate real estate. property management or development. A flexible program structure and combination of face-to-face and online delivery modes is designed to suit working professionals.

This program emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to practice and will build your capability to effectively respond to current and emerging issues, trends, and to client and organisational needs across the property sector.

In conjunction with the MC212 Master of Property, this program addresses the industry need for property specialists with a particular focus on corporate real estate, development and management.

The program replicates industry and professional practice contexts and equips you to work both independently and collaboratively, including through your critical engagement in case study analyses and simulated project work.

Successful completion of this program provides a pathway to further learning into MC212 Master of Property.

Upon successful completion of this program you may also be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University.

Articulation and pathways

Upon successful completion of this program you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University, subject to each program's entry requirements. 

Successful completion of this program guarantees entry into the MC212 Master of Property with 96 credit points of exemptions (equivalent to 1 year full-time study).

The Graduate Diploma in Property is also an exit award for the Master of Property. It is available to students upon successful completion of the eight (8) courses (96 credit points) specified in the program structure of the Masters.

The Graduate Certificate in Property (GC051) is available as an exit award of GD090 Graduate Diploma in Property if you have successfully completed the 48 credit points listed in that structure.  If you wish to exit early with the Graduate Certificate you must have completed all 48 credit points. 

If you have already developed areas of skill and knowledge included in this program (for example, through prior studies or work experience), you can apply for credit once you have enrolled in this program.

Entrance requirements

You must have:

  • successfully completed an Australian Bachelor degree (or equivalent overseas qualification), or
  • a minimum of 5 years professional work experience in a related industry. Applicants with professional experience at a senior level that is less than 5 years may also be considered.

To have your professional experience considered you must include in your application:

  • a CV
  • a statement that details your experience

English language requirement

A minimum of IELTS (Academic module) overall score of 6.5, with no band less than 6.0, or equivalent. For equivalents to English entry requirements, see the English requirements web page.

The Graduate Diploma in Property is accredited by  Australian Property Institute (API) 

On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma in Property graduates are entitled to apply for membership to the Australian Property Institute (API).www.propertyinstituite.com.au

The School of PCPM has substantial links with the Property and Business industry both within Australia and internationally. Employers and industry professionals are members of our Industry Advisory Board and contribute to both the initial development and ongoing improvement of this program. Their involvement ensures that the program remains relevant to your needs as a graduate and the needs of graduate employers. Many of the teaching staff within the program are practicing (or have been) industry professionals with extensive industry experience and contact networks.

Student expenses and charges in addition to fees

Once you are enrolled as a student in this program you will need to allow for expenses other than university tuition fees.  Additional expenses may relate to the purchase of lecture notes, textbooks, stationery, consumables such as printer paper, fees levied by commercial internet service providers for internet access outside of the university campus, and other relevant costs.
