A large collection of DVDs, VHS video tapes, CD-ROMS and audio CDs is available and can be found in the Library catalogue.
Searching
Add one of these words to your search keywords in the catalogue when looking for a specific format:
- slide
- kit
- cdrom
- motion picture
- sound recording
- videorecording (use when looking for DVD, low band U-matic, VHS and laser disc)
- electronic resource (use when looking for software)
Borrowing
Most items from the audiovisual collection are available for 7 day loan, however:
- Equipment and sound effect CDs are available for 3 day loan.
- CD-ROMS accompanying books have the same loan period as the book.
- Reserve titles or titles listed as ‘Reserved for student viewing’ can only be viewed within the Library.
- CAVAL users are only able to borrow CD-ROMS accompanying books.

Advance bookings: If you need an item on a particular day or time, you may be able book it in advance. Contact us to find out more.
Viewing
Each Library site has the equipment to allow you to:
- Watch DVDs and VHS videos
- Watch video slides and motion picture films (Group viewing facilities)
- Listen to audio CDs (Carlton and Swanston Libraries). CDs can also be used in the computer lab with the headphones.
- View slide tapes (Bundoora, Carlton and Swanston Libraries).
