RMIT University Library belongs to the CAVAL (Cooperative Action by Victorian Academic Libraries) Reciprocal Borrowing Program. This program allows RMIT students and staff to borrow material from other participating Victorian academic libraries. For more information go to the CAVAL website.
Who may borrow?: Check Borrowing from the Library information to see if you are eligible to become a CAVAL borrower.
Registration: Go to the Loans Desk at any RMIT University Library site with your current student/staff card to join the CAVAL program.
Returning material: You must return material to the library from which you borrowed them. Penalties and fines for late return of material are at the discretion of the lending library. These will be set out in the membership brochure available at the lending library.
The National Borrowing Scheme is a cooperative arrangement between member universities of the Australian Vice Chancellor’s Committee (AVCC). It allows all staff and students of member universities to borrow in person from any other university in Australia.
Who may borrow?:All students and staff from AVCC member universities are eligible to register with any university library that participates in the scheme. Membership is personal and not transferable.
Where can I borrow?:You may borrow from any AVCC member university outside their regional borrowing scheme. In RMIT's case, this would be the CAVAL Reciprocal Borrowing Program. Loan transactions will only be made in person from the library where you register.
Document Delivery: Requests for inter-library loans and document delivery are not part of this scheme. Make document delivery requests through our Library.
How do I apply?:Apply directly to the library you wish to borrow from. Applications are made in person unless the library has an online registration scheme. The library you visit will either register you on the spot or mail out your borrowing card to you in a few days.
Documents required: A photo ID as well as proof of current enrolment.
Is registration permanent?:Membership is for the current calendar year only, regardless when you join throughout the year. Borrowing privileges will expire on 28th February of the following year. Proof of continued enrolment or employment will be required to renew your registration each year.
Returning material: You must return material to the library where you got them from. Penalties and fines for late returns are at the discretion of the lending library. These will be set out in the membership brochure available at the lending library.
The lending library may also send details of overdue material or monies to us. This means that your borrowing rights at our Library will also be suspended and you may not be able to re-enroll, receive results or graduate until your record is cleared.
