The annual School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SAMME) prizes and awards ceremony recognised student achievements.
This year, more than 90 students received prizes, awards and special acknowledgements for academic excellence and leadership demonstrated in 2013.
Professor Aleksandar Subic, Dean of Engineering and Head of School, SAMME, told those gathered at the ceremony that the School’s aim is to develop graduates who have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to succeed in the global environment.
Professor Subic said the awards are a way to encourage students to reach their potential, and continuously improve their academic and professional performance.
“Our graduates are globally competitive and highly employable and it is important to note that this ceremony could only take place as a result of both staff and students working in partnership to achieve academic excellence.
“I have no doubt that the students you see on stage tonight, the School’s best undergraduate and postgraduate students, will play an important role in the future in Australian and international industries.“
Keynote speaker and alumnus, Lauren Burns received the Select Alumnus for Excellence Prize, which is awarded to an outstanding female alumnus for contributions to the relevant discipline area and for promoting the School and RMIT in industry and the community.
