RMIT has recognised its top media performers at a special event.
Associate Professor Mike Reid, from the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing, was named RMIT's Media Star of the Year for the coverage of his research collaboration with VicHealth on Australia's drinking culture.
It is the second year in a row that an academic from the School has taken out the title, with Professor Sinclair Davidson collecting the trophy in 2013.
The Media Star of the Year awards were started in 2004 to recognise academic staff who contribute to the University's profile and reputation through engaging with the media on their research and areas of expertise.
In the 12 months to the end of August, 320 RMIT academics were quoted in news stories in media outlets across more than 30 countries.
RMIT research that featured prominently in the media this year included food packaging and its links to waste, online payday loans, anti-bacterial fabric, unmanned aircraft, the health benefits of organic food, Australia's drinking habits, the Warrnambool Telstra outage of 2012, affordable rental housing, acupuncture needle quality and a liquid metal enabled pump.
