The RMIT community is devastated by the news that one of our students has died while on a solo training flight.
On behalf of the University, I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to the student’s family, loved ones and friends.
As a father, I can only begin to imagine the pain they are feeling at this time.
I am at RMIT’s Point Cook flight training centre to be with students and staff.
RMIT is assisting the Air Transport Safety Bureau, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority and emergency services.
RMIT operations at Point Cook have been suspended until further notice.
The University is offering counselling and support to all aviation students and staff.
